Syria and Israel held their first publicly confirmed direct talks, helped by the U.S., after the fall of Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad in December. The goal was to reduce tensions and possibly restore a 1974 ceasefire agreement that had created a buffer zone between the two countries. Syria’s new interim government, led by President Ahmed al-Sharaa, took over after Assad’s fall. Since then, Israel has taken control of the buffer zone and launched several airstrikes in Syria. Israel said the strikes were meant to stop hostile groups and protect the Druze minority, who also live in Israel. The U.S. is pushing both sides to normalize relations as part of President Trump’s plan for a peaceful and stable Middle East. This meeting marks the first time Syria has admitted to talking directly with Israel, and officials hope it will lead to lasting peace in the region.

Pray for unity and wise counsel for all the authorities involved in the peace talks between Syria and Israel to take action to end violence in the border areas. Pray for peace between the two countries (The Holy Bible, Proverbs 20:22).

Pray for the governments of Syria and Israel to abide by international laws and to restore and uphold the ceasefire agreement between them. Pray for divine protection upon all the people living in the border areas of the two countries (The Holy Bible, Psalm 3:7).

Pray for the restoration of democracy in Syria. Pray for justice and peace to prevail in the nation and in the Middle East region (The Holy Bible, Isaiah 1:17).
