On August 15, 2025, thousands of men in Kabul celebrated the fourth anniversary of the Taliban’s return to power by watching flowers being dropped from helicopters. Women were banned from attending the event, as they are not allowed in many public places. The Taliban took over Afghanistan on August 15, 2021, and have since enforced strict Islamic laws, especially limiting the rights and freedoms of women. Girls can’t go to school beyond sixth grade, and women are banned from most jobs and public spaces. While the Taliban praised their rule as a blessing, women activists held protests in Afghanistan and Pakistan, calling the day a dark memory. They said the Taliban’s rule has caused deep suffering. The International Criminal Court (ICC) has issued arrest warrants for top Taliban leaders, accusing them of crimes against women. Unlike last year’s military parade, this year’s event was smaller.

Almighty GOD, the Great Judge of all the living beings, rise and render punishment to the proud oppressors. May your justice and peace prevail in Afghanistan (The Holy Bible, Psalm 94:2-4).

Sovereign GOD, the Great Deliverer, You are our timely Help and Deliverer. Hear the cry of the oppressed women in Afghanistan and deliver them from all evil-doers (The Holy Bible, Psalm 70:5).
