The Iraqi Counter-Terrorism Service (CTS) announced the arrest of 11 individuals on terrorist charges across several provinces. The operations were carried out with the Iraqi National Intelligence Service, Kurdish security agencies, and local forces. Five suspects were captured in Nineveh, where army aviation supported the destruction of seven hideouts. Four individuals were arrested in different parts of Kirkuk province. One suspect was detained in Sulaymaniyah with the help of local security forces. Another arrest took place in Salah al-Din province. Security forces in Salah al-Din destroyed 13 hideouts, three tunnels, and seized explosives.
In Nineveh, forces also destroyed three additional tunnels and an explosives-filled cave. Iraq has been conducting such operations since declaring ISIS’s defeat in 2017. The aim is to eliminate remaining ISIS cells and prevent their return to power.
