The U.S. State Department has condemned Iran’s death sentences against protesters from the 2022 Woman, Life, Freedom movement, urging Tehran to halt executions, free unjustly detained individuals, and end its repression. The protests began after the death of Mahsa Jina Amini in morality police custody, sparking nationwide unrest. Rights groups report that detainees have faced torture, coerced confessions, and denial of legal counsel. At least 11 people face imminent execution, while others, including Kurdish brothers Amirali and Emad Zakerifard, have received long prison terms and flogging sentences. Since 2022, Iranian authorities have executed 11 people in connection to the protests, with minority groups disproportionately targeted, particularly following recent tensions with Israel.
Abba Father, we pray for justice, mercy, and protection for all those facing oppression and persecution. In Jesus’ name. Amen. (The Holy Bible, Psalm 82:3-4).
Lord, comfort the families of those imprisoned or at risk, and strengthen the hearts of those standing for truth (The Holy Bible, Isaiah 61:1).
