Eritrea is one of the least connected countries in the world. In 2025, the government continues to block mobile internet access for its citizens. People in Eritrea cannot use mobile data and must rely on slow, limited internet from a few internet cafés or hotels in the capital city, Asmara. Even then, the connection is very poor, often slower than old dial-up. The government controls all communication and blocks access to undersea internet cables. This blackout keeps most people offline. It is estimated that only about 1% of Eritreans have ever used the internet. The government says this control helps maintain national security, but it also stops people from getting information, learning new things, or sharing their opinions. The blackout hurts education, freedom of speech, business, and connection with the outside world. Many Eritreans, especially the youth, feel isolated. The situation remains unchanged, and the country is still digitally cut off in 2025.

Pray for the right to information for all citizens in Eritrea. Pray for them to have access to all their rights and freedoms in their homeland (The Holy Bible, Psalm 146:7).

Pray for an end to the oppressive regime in Eritrea. Pray for the international authorities to urge the Eritrean regime to uphold the rights and freedoms of its citizens  (The Holy Bible, Psalm 82:4).
