SOMALIA: Every night, a hidden crisis occurs in the heart of Somalia. In Garowe, groups of street-connected children, both girls and boys, gather in roadside booths, marketplaces, and empty buildings to find safety and shelter as they try to survive. These kids, some as young as ten, have been pushed aside by poverty, displacement, and family problems. With no access to family support, many beg for food or take on low-paying jobs like selling bottled water or carrying heavy loads. Unfortunately, in exchange for basic needs like food, clothing, and shelter, many of them face exploitation. Girls are particularly vulnerable to sexual abuse, while boys often get drawn into criminal activities or substance abuse as a way to cope.
- Lord, we pray for the street-connected children in Garowe. We pray for their safety and protection from exploitation and abuse. Surround them with Your love and grace, and help them find safe places where they can heal and grow (The Holy Bible, Psalm 91:3).
- Lord, we pray for Your compassion to flow into the lives of these children. May they receive the necessary support, care, and opportunities to thrive. Heal their wounds and provide them with a pathway to a brighter future, free from poverty and violence (The Holy Bible, Psalm 67:3).
