Bhutan, renowned for its carbon-negative status and climate leadership, faces a deeper concern—how vulnerable its children are to the growing impacts of climate change. With over 41% of its population under 18, children are especially at risk from flash floods, shortened winters, and infrastructure challenges due to the country’s terrain and scattered settlements. Although Bhutan emits very little carbon, its youth already experience disruptions in education, water scarcity, and health threats. Stories like Pema’s in Laya reflect these changes. In 2024, UNICEF and Bhutan’s Ministry of Education consulted over 600 youths to shape climate policy (NDC 3.0), ensuring their voices inform education, empowerment, and resilience efforts. Children, especially girls and those in remote areas, face rising hardship without urgent, inclusive climate action.
Abba Father, protect the children of Bhutan from the harsh effects of climate change. Shield them from harm and provide safe paths for learning and growth (The Holy Bible, Psalm 91:4).
God, give wisdom to leaders and strength to communities building a safer, greener future. Let the voices of young people guide the way toward justice and renewal (The Holy Bible, Proverbs 22:6).
