MALDIVES: Women in the Maldives who suffer from endometriosis encounter significant challenges, including misdiagnosis, stigma, and financial struggles. Even though the current government has opened an endometriosis clinic and offers health insurance coverage, many surgeries still need to be performed overseas, and welfare assistance does not cover these expenses. In the country, radiologists often do not have the necessary training to detect the disease in scans. Patients frequently report that their pain is ignored for years and wrongly attributed to simple issues. This lack of awareness among the general public and healthcare providers normalizes pelvic pain and leads to lengthy delays in diagnosis. The World Health Organization points out that middle-income countries like the Maldives do not have the “multidisciplinary teams with a broad range of skills and equipment required for early diagnosis and effective treatment of endometriosis.” Many women turn to online support networks to share experiences, seek answers, and manage their own healthcare.

  • Lord, we pray for increased awareness and understanding of endometriosis among healthcare providers and the general public in the Maldives. May those suffering from this condition receive compassionate care and proper diagnosis, alleviating the years of pain and misunderstanding they have endured (The Holy Bible, Proverbs 2:6).
  • Lord, we pray for your provision and support for women in the Maldives who face financial struggles and barriers in accessing necessary treatments for endometriosis. We pray for the establishment of multidisciplinary teams and adequate resources to ensure comprehensive care for those in need (The Holy Bible, Philippians 4:19).
