SOMALIA: Ethiopian soldiers, who are backing the Jubaland regional forces, carried out a strong attack on a base of Somalia’s National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) in the border town of Dolow on Sunday. This happened just hours after a stressful diplomatic meeting between leaders from Somalia and Ethiopia in Addis Ababa. The peace efforts, which were mediated by Turkey, now seem to be at risk as both countries are forming different alliances. Somalia is building closer relationships with Egypt, which competes with Ethiopia over Nile water issues, increasing tensions even more. At the same time, Addis Ababa keeps supplying weapons and support to Somali regional states that are against President Mohamud’s government.
- Lord, we pray for a peaceful resolution to the tensions between Somalia and Ethiopia. May diplomatic efforts, including those mediated by Turkey, be successful in fostering understanding and cooperation, ultimately bringing an end to conflict (The Holy Bible, Colossians 3:13).
- Lord, we pray for healing and unity among the people of Somalia and Ethiopia. May they find common ground and work towards reconciliation despite the pressures of competing alliances and conflicts over resources (The Holy Bible, Ephesians 4:3).
