A deadly border conflict between Cambodia and Thailand has killed 33 people, mostly civilians, over three days. The fighting, involving jets, tanks, and artillery, forced over 170,000 people to flee their homes. Despite the violence, civilians on both sides expressed a deep desire for peace, calling each other “siblings” and “friends.” Evacuees are taking shelter in temples and makeshift camps near the border, hoping for a return to normal life. The conflict stems from a long-standing border dispute involving ancient temple territories. Previous deadly clashes occurred between 2008 and 2011 but were not as intense as the current violence. The UN Security Council held an emergency meeting to urge both nations to honor a ceasefire. Both sides have shown willingness for a truce but blame each other for ongoing attacks.
abba Father, we lift Cambodia and Thailand into Your hands. Heal the pain and restore peace between these neighboring nations. May their people be reunited in love and trust (The Holy Bible, John 14:27).
Lord, protect the innocent caught in the crossfire. Comfort the displaced and give wisdom to leaders for peaceful negotiations. Bring safety to children, the elderly, and all who long for home (The Holy Bible, Psalm 34:18).
