A wildfire near Eskişehir in western Türkiye killed at least 10 people, including five forest workers and five rescuers. The fire spread quickly because of high temperatures and strong winds, forcing several villages to evacuate. The workers were caught when the flames suddenly changed direction. Fourteen others are injured and receiving hospital treatment. Türkiye has been very hot since 20th July’2025, with temperatures 6 to 12°C above normal. This extreme heat is linked to climate change caused by burning fossil fuels. Several other fires have also started across the country. The government and firefighters are working hard to control the wildfires. The fire near Eskişehir is one of the worst, causing loss of life and damage. Authorities warn people to be careful as the hot weather and strong winds make fires more dangerous.
