GAZA STRIP: Starvation is not only taking the lives of Palestinians in Gaza one by one, but it is also dismantling Palestinian society and causing lasting harm to both their physical and mental well-being. When the body is deprived of food, it starts to break down its own muscle and organs for energy, leading to irreversible damage. This condition stunts the growth of children, affecting their future development, and may even have negative health impacts on the children of those who survive. Additionally, starvation fractures communities, pitting individuals against one another in their desperate search for food and compelling them to engage in shameful, degrading, or violent acts to stay alive. Even if individuals manage to recover physically, the trauma of making impossible choices—such as prioritizing one child over another, rejecting relatives who plead for food, or resorting to selling their own bodies or those of family members—remains with them for a lifetime, according to famine experts.
- Lord, we pray that God provides for the physical needs of those suffering from starvation, restoring their health and well-being. Ask for strength and resilience for individuals and families during this harrowing time (The Holy Bible, Philippians 4:19).
- Lord, we pray for healing of broken relationships within communities affected by starvation, asking God to bring unity, compassion, and support among individuals. May those who are suffering find hope and comfort in their shared experiences rather than division (The Holy Bible, 2 Corinthians 1:3).
