SOMALIA: The number of fatalities from intense fighting between Somali federal forces and troops supporting the Jubaland administration in the border town of Balad Hawo has increased to 10, with many others reported injured. Tensions are still elevated as both factions continue to strengthen their positions, indicating the possibility of more clashes. The Gedo region has historically been a hotspot in the power struggle between the federal government and Jubaland, especially during election periods. Disputes over the selection of parliamentary members, who are crucial in Somalia’s indirect presidential elections, have been a significant source of conflict.
- Lord, we pray for peace to prevail in Balad Hawo and the Gedo region, that the violence may cease and healing may come to those affected by the conflict. May God provide comfort to the families of the deceased and strength to the injured (The Holy Bible, Colossians 3:13).
- Lord, we pray for wisdom and discernment for the leaders of the Somali federal government and the Jubaland administration. May they seek reconciliation and work towards a peaceful resolution of their disputes, focusing on the welfare of their people rather than power struggles (The Holy Bible, Proverbs 16:21).
