Somalia: Puntland officials have accused the Federal Government of Somalia of mobilizing clan militias aligned with Makhir State to launch attacks on Dhahar town, as fighting continues in the Sanaag region. Puntland condemned the federal government’s alleged actions, claiming they are exacerbating violence and instability in the region. The regional administration asserts that this move aims to disrupt its ongoing counter-terrorism efforts against Al-Shabaab and ISIS militants in the Al Madow and Al Miskad mountain ranges.
The clashes are occurring alongside a clan conference in Lasanod, where members of the Warsangeli and Dhulbahante clans—mainly from the Sool and Sanaag regions—are discussing the establishment of a new federal member state. According to Somalia’s constitution, a federal member state must consist of at least two regions. Elders from both clans have reportedly agreed to nominate eight representatives each to work towards the creation of a unified state.
- Lord, we pray for peace in Dhahar town and the Sanaag region, asking God to intervene in the ongoing clashes and to bring an end to violence. May the hearts of those involved be turned toward dialogue and reconciliation rather than conflict (The Holy Bible, Romans 5:1).
- Lord, we pray for the clans involved in the Lasanod conference, that they may be guided by wisdom and a spirit of cooperation as they work towards creating a new federal member state. May they find common ground and work together for the betterment of their communities (The Holy Bible, Psalm 133:1).
