China: Chinese media reported that 233 out of 251 children at a kindergarten in Tianshui, a second-tier city in the northwestern province, were found to have elevated blood lead levels. The central government has stepped in to expand the investigation into a lead poisoning scandal at the kindergarten that has alarmed the nation, marking a rare intervention in a provincial inquiry. Most of the affected children are receiving treatment in hospitals in Xi’an, the capital of the neighboring Shaanxi province. Some parents have also taken their children to Beijing and Shanghai for more comprehensive diagnoses. The children are being treated with sodium calcium edetate, which helps bind lead in the body and facilitates its elimination through the kidneys.

  • Lord, we pray for the healing of the affected children and strength for their families as they navigate this challenging situation. May the medical treatments be effective and bring swift recovery to all involved (The Holy Bible, Jeremiah 30:17).
  • Lord, we pray for the investigation into the lead poisoning scandal to uncover the truth and ensure that measures are put in place to protect children from such environmental hazards in the future (The Holy Bible, Psalm 121:7).
