Poverty in Laos remains a serious issue in 2025, even though some progress has been made. About 17% of families still live below the poverty line, struggling to meet basic needs. High prices for food, medicine, and everyday essentials make life more difficult, especially for people in rural areas. Many families try to cope by farming only enough to feed themselves or by working abroad. Laos also faces big debts, especially to China, which puts pressure on the government to spend less on important services like health and education. This debt makes it more difficult to assist impoverished individuals and improve their lives. Experts warn that many poor countries, including Laos, must pay large amounts of money to China this year, which could slow down development. While some provinces in Laos have reduced poverty, many people still face tough times due to rising costs and limited support. The country needs more help to fight poverty and improve living conditions.
Pray for divine wisdom and discernment so that the authorities can manage the resources in Laos and tackle the debts. Pray for the healing and restoration of the country’s economy, broken by debt and mismanagement. (The Holy Bible, Psalm 80:19).
LORD, we pray for the people in Laos struggling with both financial hardship and poor living conditions. Father, help them to break free from the cycle of debt and economic insecurity. LORD, provide them with opportunities to improve their lives and livelihoods (The Holy Bible, Psalm 34:6).
