Malaysian police have uncovered a network of Bangladeshi nationals linked to the Islamic State (IS), using social media and messaging apps to spread extremist ideology and recruit from Malaysia’s migrant worker community. According to Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail, the group targeted Bangladeshi laborers in factories, construction sites, and petrol stations. The network used Facebook, WhatsApp, and Telegram to share radical content, organize secret meetings, and raise funds. Some members were reportedly recruited to fight in Syria, while others contributed financially to IS-linked operations in Syria and Bangladesh. Authorities have identified up to 150 individuals involved, with ongoing efforts for legal prosecution and repatriation amid fears that Malaysia could become a transit hub for international militants.

Abba Father, we pray for discernment and protection over migrant communities targeted by extremist groups. Shield their hearts and minds from deception and draw them toward truth, peace, and hope (The Bible, Psalm 27:1).

Lord, bless the efforts of law enforcement as they work to expose and dismantle networks of terror. Give wisdom to those in authority and let justice prevail. May Your peace reign in nations and communities under threat (The Bible, Isaiah 2:4).
