Türkiye, facing a 93,000-driver shortage, is tackling gender imbalance in trucking by boosting female participation. Only 1.4% of truck drivers are women. In response, the UND Women Working Group was launched in 2024, followed by the UND Women Truck Driver Academy in 2025, in partnership with key ministries. Over 300 women have applied so far. Graduates are placed with UND member firms after receiving targeted training. Interviews with female drivers highlighted their resilience and challenges, like poor border facilities. Monthly meetings with the Ministry of Transport aim to improve conditions and share best practices. Türkiye’s central role in global logistics makes these efforts vital. Additional support from İŞKUR and ministerial incentives further strengthens the initiative, aiming to grow female representation and address the chronic driver shortage.
Pray for the success of the efforts of the government to include women in truck driving work in Türkiye. Pray for gender equality in all sectors in the country (The Holy Bible, Psalm 74:21).
Pray for Türkish women to have access to their rights and freedom. Pray for them to shine for HIS Glory. (The Holy Bible, Isaiah 60:1).
