Brunei has made some progress in gender equality, but there are still problems. In 2024, Brunei ranked 105th out of 146 countries in the Global Gender Gap Report. Women in Brunei do well in education and jobs. Many women work in high positions in government and business. 37% of managers in private companies are women, which is the highest in Southeast Asia. Women are also joining the ICT (Information and Communication Technology) field more than before. But in politics, few women have power. Only about 9–12% of lawmakers are women. Brunei also has some laws and cultural rules that limit women’s freedom. For example, there are no strong laws against domestic violence or spousal rape. Some Sharia laws limit women’s rights in areas like clothing and movement. Brunei is trying to improve this by creating plans and programs to support women and give them more chances.

Praise GOD for the progress made in gender equality in Brunei. Praise GOD for women’s greater involvement in the education and employment sectors in the nation. Pray for greater participation of women in the nation’s political system (The Holy Bible, Isaiah 60:1).

Pray for the lawmakers to enact and effectively enforce laws to eradicate violence against women such as domestic violence, spousal rape, etc., in Brunei. Pray for divine protection upon all the women and girls in the country (The Holy Bible, Psalm 27:5).
