The security crisis in Niger’s Tillabéri region has intensified since the July 2023 military coup, with jihadist violence escalating and women bearing the brunt. Armed groups like the Islamic State–Sahel Province have attacked villages, killing civilians and abducting or enslaving women and girls. Survivors report rape, forced marriages, and the targeted killing of male relatives to tighten control over communities. Despite promises to combat extremism, the junta has failed to contain the violence, and civilian deaths have more than doubled since the coup. Displaced women face dire conditions, including food insecurity, lack of healthcare, and sexual violence, worsened by sanctions and suspended international aid. Censorship and media bans obscure the severity of the conflict, allowing propaganda to flourish. With little support, many women feel abandoned and at the mercy of jihadists.

Pray for the LORD’s intervention in Niger against the Jihadist crisis in the country. Pray for divine protection for all the vulnerable people, especially women, from violence and enslavement (The Holy Bible, Psalm 18:48).

Pray for the authorities in Niger to take immediate action against the armed groups threatening the civilians. Pray for an improved security system in the country against extremism (The Holy Bible, Proverbs 12:6).
