Japan: Extreme temperatures led to heatstroke warnings in various areas of Japan, with many individuals requiring emergency medical assistance in Tokyo. The scorching weather has dominated news coverage in the country, which faced its hottest summer on record last year, driven by climate change and severe heatwaves worldwide. Each summer, Japanese authorities encourage the public, particularly the elderly, to stay in air-conditioned spaces to prevent heat-related illnesses. Over the past five years, seniors accounted for more than 80 percent of deaths linked to heat.
- Lord, we come before You in prayer for the people of Japan as they face extreme heat and heatstroke warnings. We ask for Your divine protection over the elderly and vulnerable populations during this scorching weather. Grant them comfort, safety, and access to adequate cooling facilities (The Holy Bible, Psalm 91:1-2).
- Lord, we pray for wisdom and commitment among leaders and communities to take meaningful action against climate change, which drives these extreme weather events. Help us to be good stewards of our environment and to educate one another on the importance of sustainability (The Holy Bible, Proverbs 16:9).
