Around 200 people were killed in the Yelewata farming community in Benue State, Nigeria, after gunmen attacked recently. Most victims, including families and children, died when their homes were set on fire while they slept. Human Rights groups condemned the violence and urged the government to stop the killings and bring the attackers to justice. Local leaders said the attackers aimed to take over the land. Despite being nearby, authorities reportedly did not act during the attack. Protests followed but were met with tear gas. The Benue governor stated that special forces have now been deployed to protect the area. Attacks like this are happening more often in Benue, usually by Fulani Militia targeting Christian communities. Over 10,000 people have been killed in Nigeria by armed groups since 2023. Former Vice President Atiku called for a full investigation. Pope Leo also prayed for the victims and condemned the violence.

Pray for the perpetrators behind the attacks to be brought to justice quickly. Pray for an improved security system in Nigeria, especially in Benue State. Pray for divine protection and comfort for all the innocent civilians in Benue State (The Holy Bible, Psalm 140:1).

O LORD, our Father, we plead for Your Love to supernaturally fill the hearts of the farmers and herders in Nigeria to end the ethnic and religious tensions between them. We pray for their peaceful coexistence and harmonious living together in their homeland (The Holy Bible, Jeremiah 31:24).
