Morocco has made progress in fighting illiteracy, but the problem still exists. In 2024, about 24.8% of people in the country cannot read or write. This is better than 10 years ago, when the rate was 32.2%. Rural areas have seen improvement, but 38% of people there are still illiterate. In cities, the number is lower at 17.3%. Women have shown strong progress, with their illiteracy rate dropping from 42.1% to 32.4%. However, over half of the people above age 50 still cannot read or write. Young people are doing much better; only 3% of those aged 15 to 24 are illiterate. Problems remain in poor and remote areas, where access to education is limited. Some families also do not send girls to school. The Moroccan government has spent billions on literacy programs and hopes to end illiteracy by 2029. They are also using new technology and working with local groups to help.

Pray for wise counsel for the authorities to come up with creative initiatives to eradicate illiteracy in Morocco. Pray for more educational opportunities for all citizens, especially girls and women, in the country (The Holy Bible, Proverbs 20:18).

Pray for the success of the government literacy programs to end illiteracy in Morocco by 2029. Pray for an enhanced education system in the country (The Holy Bible, Proverbs 1:20).
