In North Korea, most people lack access to the global internet. Less than 1% of the 25 million citizens are believed to go online. Instead, they utilize a local network called Kwangmyong, a closed system controlled by the government. It offers only selected websites, all approved by the state. The global internet is largely restricted to top officials, researchers, or individuals with special permission. The country’s internet traffic mainly goes through China, and all activity is closely watched. Recently, a major internet outage affected the whole country, but experts think it was likely caused internally, not by a cyberattack. North Korea also has a history of cyber activities, with hacker groups targeting global systems. While the country has faced attacks, it is also known for stealing large amounts of cryptocurrency through cyber theft to support its regime.
Pray for the right to information for all citizens in North Korea. Pray for them to have access to all their rights and freedom in their homeland (The Holy Bible, Psalm 146:7).
Pray for an end to the oppressive regime in North Korea. Pray for the international authorities to take immediate action to end the cyber attacks and thefts by the regime (The Holy Bible, Psalm 82:4).
