Country Information

Indonesia is Southeast Asia’s largest country. The country has 17,508 islands. Each island has its own unique culture and religious traditions. Christians are the majority in some islands. However, their cultural differences make it nearly impossible for the Great Commission. There was also violence against Christian populations a few years ago, and this created a rift between Christians and Muslims in Indonesia. Most Christians who have done good work are reluctant to travel to different islands to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ. With multiple cultural differences, an overall Church leadership structure seems far-fetched. However, the increase in persecution and the violence against Christians in Indonesia has brought the Indonesian Church together. Persecution is high in most of the islands. They are exceptionally high, where radical Islamic groups have more influence. Converts risk severe persecution as well as social isolation. Building church buildings is next to impossible. Church buildings and Christian-owned properties are often demolished. The country dropped out of the Open Doors Persecution List in 2025.
