JAPAN: According to data from the National Police Agency, more than half of the reported cases of explicit deepfakes targeting individuals under 18 in Japan involved students from the same schools as the victims. This marks the first time the NPA has shared information about minors who have fallen victim to inappropriate fake images created using generative artificial intelligence and other technologies. The agency intends to produce flyers and provide warnings about this misuse of AI during delinquency-prevention talks at schools and other venues. The NPA reported that four individuals were arrested or referred to prosecutors, while six minors were taken into custody between January and September for alleged defamation or sharing obscene digital content. “Editing and sharing sexual images is a terrible act that can have a lasting effect on victims,” stated an official from the agency. “We strongly encourage people not to misuse AI in this manner.”
- We pray for God’s protection over children and minors, especially those harmed by the misuse of technology. May the Lord bring healing to victims of digital abuse, restore their dignity, and surround them with compassion, justice, and strong support systems (The Holy Bible, 1 Thessalonians 1:5).
- We ask God to grant wisdom and moral conviction to young people and society at large, that technology and artificial intelligence will be used for good and not for harm. May hearts be transformed, wrongdoing be restrained, and righteousness guide innovation and education (The Holy Bible, Isaiah 1:17).
