The High Court ruled in favor of Segambut MP Hannah Yeoh in a defamation case against Dr. Kamarul Zaman Yusoff, a lecturer from University Utara Malaysia. The court ordered him to pay RM400,000 for two Facebook posts from 2017 that falsely accused Hannah of trying to spread Christianity and turn Malaysia into a Christian nation. The judge found these claims to be malicious and harmful, especially in a country where religion is a sensitive issue. The court rejected the lecturer’s defense and said the accusations would cause public hate and damage to Hannah’s reputation. Although the judge did not require a public apology, an injunction was issued to prevent similar future posts. Hannah expressed relief and gratitude after the decision.
Abba Father, we thank You for standing by those who seek truth and justice. Thank You for giving Hannah the strength to endure and for letting truth shine through. May You continue to protect those who are wrongly accused and bring justice to the oppressed (The Bible, Psalm, 37:28).
Lord, we pray for unity and peace in Malaysia. Help leaders and citizens avoid using religion to divide. May respect and understanding grow among all communities, and may peace rule in every heart and home (The Bible, Matthew 5:9.).
