When one thinks of innovation and advanced technology, one usually doesn’t think of West African countries that struggle with coups, unemployment, and economic instability. Burkina Faso has taken a huge step to break out of that mold this year. They will provide a model that other African countries can emulate if their efforts succeed.

Burkina Faso’s ITAOUA car manufacturer just designed and manufactured an electric car that is built with local resources. Designers and engineers are all from Burkina Faso. Solar charging is important in a region with abundant, reliable sunshine but is still developing its electric infrastructure. ITAOUA cars are able to drive up to 205 miles after a 30-minute charge. ITAOUA offers two models: “Native” and “Sahel,” which offer GPS navigation, Bluetooth, and solar charging. Such features could potentially rival ITAOUA to American, Chinese, and European electric vehicle corporations, which currently control 95 percent of the electric car market. Mordor Intelligence suggests Burkina Faso and other African countries can expand their electric car markets from a current 15.8 billion dollars to 25.4 billion by 2029.

If ITAOUA’s efforts pay off, it could be revolutionary for Burkina Faso’s economy. The changes have the potential to help Burkina Faso reduce their dependence on fossil fuels and costly imports. ITAOUA has the chance to produce thousands of jobs, from manufacturing jobs to engineers. They might eventually be able to find export markets in Africa and beyond.

Let us pray fervently for:

… Thankfulness to God among the people of Burkina Faso for this possible breakthrough (The Bible, 1 Corinthians 15:57).

….People who love God will all their hearts to work for the good of ITAOUA and Burkina Faso (The Bible, Daniel 6:3).

… More innovation, jobs, and better living standards for the people of Burkina Faso (Isaiah 1:19).

… This development to offer other African countries a role model for how to expand their economy (1 Kings 10:7).

… The people who work for ITAOUA to be diligent and hard-working (The Bible, Colossians 3:23).
