Journalist Le Huu Minh Tuan, 36, is suffering from serious health problems in prison, including internal hemorrhoids causing severe bleeding, weight loss, chest pain, and difficulty breathing. He was arrested in June 2020 for peacefully expressing his views and was sentenced to 11 years under a law used to silence critics. Tuan is a member of the Independent Journalists Association of Vietnam and has written about democracy and politics. His family says he needs urgent medical treatment, possibly abroad. International standards, such as the UN’s Mandela Rules, require that prisoners receive prompt medical care and be transferred to hospitals when needed. Tuan’s condition has worsened due to a lack of proper treatment, raising concerns about Vietnam’s treatment of political prisoners. There are growing calls for his immediate release and for better care for those detained for expressing peaceful opinions.
Pray for the imprisoned journalist Le Huu Minh Tuan to have immediate access to medical care and other basic needs. Pray for the Vietnamese government to abide by international law and to provide prompt medical care for all the prisoners (The Holy Bible, Job 36:6).
Pray for the immediate and unconditional release of all the political prisoners, including journalist Le Huu Minh Tuan. Pray for freedom of expression and freedom of speech in Vietnam. Pray for justice to be served for the victims (The Holy Bible, Psalm 146:7).
