Yemen is currently experiencing a serious polio outbreak, with 282 confirmed cases of variant type 2 poliovirus since 2021. The virus is still spreading, based on recent environmental testing. To help stop the outbreak, a new vaccination campaign took place from 12 to 14 July 2025 in 12 southern areas controlled by the government. Health workers, supported by international health agencies, gave polio vaccines to protect children. Experts say the campaign is urgently needed to stop the spread and prevent children from becoming paralyzed. They also warned that if more children are not vaccinated, the outbreak could grow worse. War and damage to the healthcare system have made it harder to control the disease. Health officials believe that only through strong and widespread vaccination can the virus be stopped. The goal is to reach every child and protect them from the dangerous effects of polio.
Jehovah Rapha, we pray for Your divine healing power upon those suffering from the polio outbreak and other diseases in Yemen. We pray for the Yemeni people, especially children, to have immediate access to healthcare and other essential resources they need (The Holy Bible, Jeremiah 33:6).
Pray for wise counsel for the authorities to implement immediate preventive measures to safeguard the safety of the children during this time of uncertainty in Yemen. Pray for a strong healthcare system in the country (The Holy Bible, Psalm 57:1).
