PAKISTAN: A report from Pakistan’s leading human rights organization, published earlier this year, highlights a troubling increase in violence against religious minorities. This includes forced conversions and the underage marriages of Hindu and Christian girls. Risch expressed worry about these events, stating that there is an “atmosphere of intolerance” where mob violence, hate speech, arbitrary arrests, and forced conversions often go unpunished for minority groups in Pakistan. To help protect people from mob violence, law enforcement needs better resources and essential training in areas like gathering intelligence, managing crowds, recognizing early signs of riots, and engaging with the community.
- Pray that God would protect vulnerable religious minorities—especially young girls at risk of forced conversion or marriage—and that justice will prevail where violence and violations have occurred. Ask God to raise up courageous advocates and strengthen legal systems so perpetrators do not go unpunished (The Holy Bible, Malachi 2:10).
- Pray that law enforcement personnel in Pakistan will receive the training, resources, and courage needed to prevent mob violence. Ask God to fill them with wisdom to recognize early signs of unrest, respond with fairness, and act as instruments of peace and protection (The Holy Bible, Galatians 3:28).
