JAPAN: Representatives and members of organizations that support foreign nationals in Japan held a rally inside a Tokyo parliament building to protest against xenophobia and the efforts to impose stricter rules on foreigners. The participants, which included the Solidarity Network with Migrants Japan, a nonprofit organization, released a statement demanding the creation of a basic law to protect the human rights of foreigners and ethnic minorities in Japan.
This gathering occurs as discussions about foreign nationals have become very controversial in Japan, especially after media reports about visa overstays and alleged misuse of public services by some foreigners. The participants criticized the government’s actions aimed at creating “a society of well-ordered and harmonious coexistence,” arguing that it seems like the government is not interested in true coexistence and instead has increased its control and monitoring of foreigners.
- Pray that Japan’s leaders, lawmakers, and society will uphold justice and compassion toward foreigners and ethnic minorities. Ask God to guide the creation of laws and policies that protect human dignity, promote fairness, and prevent discrimination or xenophobia (The Holy Bible, Deuteronomy 10:18).
- Pray for peace, understanding, and unity among all who live in Japan—citizens and foreigners alike. Ask God to heal fears and divisions and to inspire communities to pursue genuine coexistence rooted in respect, empathy, and love (The Holy Bible, Psalm 68:5).
