WESTERN SAHARA: The Sahrawi cause gained renewed and stronger backing during the talks at the United Nations General Assembly’s Special Political and Decolonization Committee. Representatives from various countries emphasized the UN’s duty to the people of Western Sahara and their undeniable right to self-determination, as stated in relevant UN resolutions. They noted that over 60 years have gone by since the UN Special Committee on Decolonization labeled Western Sahara a Non-Self-Governing Territory, and many resolutions since then have confirmed the Sahrawi people’s right to choose their future.
In this context, they urged for a serious and responsible commitment to negotiations under UN guidance, conducted honestly and without preconditions, according to the UN Charter. The goal is to find a fair, lasting, comprehensive, and mutually acceptable solution to the issue of Western Sahara.
- Lord, we pray for the people of Western Sahara and their right to self-determination. May the nations and representatives involved in negotiations recognize the importance of justice and freedom for all. We ask for Your guidance and wisdom to lead them towards a fair resolution (The Holy Bible, Isaiah 59:14).
- Lord, we pray for Your intervention in the negotiations regarding Western Sahara. We pray for honest and open dialogue among all parties involved, free from preconditions and with a spirit of cooperation. May Your peace fill each heart as they work towards a comprehensive solution (The Holy Bible, Psalm 37:5).
