MALDIVES: President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s administration has allowed gulper shark fishing to start again in the Maldives, even though most citizens do not support ending the long-term ban, according to a national survey. The President’s Office released a new regulation in the government gazette that sets up guidelines for managing and controlling gulper shark fishing activities. This regulation requires all parties involved, such as fishing boats, processing plants, and shark supply operators, to obtain licenses. It also calls for the creation of a committee within six months to oversee the execution and evaluation of the shark management plan.
- Pray that God will grant President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and the Maldivian government wisdom to make decisions that protect the nation’s marine life and preserve creation. Ask that the leaders act as faithful stewards of God’s resources, balancing economic needs with environmental care (The Holy Bible, Genesis 2:15).
- Pray that the government will listen to the voice of the people and act in transparency and fairness regarding the Gulper shark fishing policy. Ask God to bring unity and understanding among citizens and leaders so that national policies reflect justice, sustainability, and peace (The Holy Bible, Proverbs 11:14).
