MYANMAR: Scam centers in Myanmar, which are accused of stealing billions from victims worldwide, are growing quickly just a few months after a crackdown aimed at shutting them down. New buildings have been appearing rapidly within the heavily secured areas around Myawaddy, located on the Thailand-Myanmar border. In February, Myanmar’s pro-junta militias that guard these centers were pressured to promise they would “eliminate” the compounds. They managed to rescue about 7,000 people, mostly Chinese citizens, from the harsh call center-like operations that the United Nations claims rely on forced labor and human trafficking. Many workers reported to AFP that they faced beatings and were made to work long hours by scam leaders who target people globally through phone calls, the internet, and social media scams.

  • Lord, we lift up the individuals trapped in scam centers, particularly those subjected to forced labor and human trafficking. We pray for their deliverance, protection, and restoration. May justice prevail, and may those responsible be held accountable (The Holy Bible, Romans 16:18).
  • Lord, we pray for healing for all those who have suffered abuse and exploitation in these centers. May they experience Your love and find freedom from their circumstances. We ask that You provide opportunities for them to rebuild their lives and safety in their communities (The Holy Bible, 1 John 4:7).
