MYANMAR: An airstrike conducted by Myanmar’s military hit a tea shop in the upper-central region of Sagaing, resulting in at least 18 civilian deaths and injuring 20 others. This attack is part of a troubling trend of frequent and deadly airstrikes aimed at armed pro-democracy groups as the country nears elections set for later this month. These airstrikes often lead to civilian harm. In Myanmar, tea shops serve a similar purpose to neighborhood coffee shops in the West, where people enjoy sweet tea, chat with friends, eat, and connect with their community. A villager, who wished to remain unnamed due to fears of military arrest, reported that two bombs dropped from a jet exploded soon after air raid sirens went off, killing many patrons in the tea shop before they had a chance to find safety. Additionally, over 20 houses nearby were damaged.

  • Pray that God’s comfort will surround the families who lost loved ones and bring healing—physically, emotionally, and spiritually—to all who are wounded and traumatized. Ask that His peace, which surpasses understanding, will rest upon the affected community (The Holy Bible, Revelation 21:4).
  • Pray for God’s protection over civilians caught in the conflict, that He would restrain violence and bring justice, truth, and righteousness to prevail in Myanmar. Ask for divine intervention to stop attacks targeting innocent people (The Holy Bible, Psalm 72:14).
