Since June 2024, measles outbreaks have been spreading across Darfur, Sudan, where Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) has treated over 9,950 patients. Around 2,700 required hospital care, and 35 deaths were reported. Low vaccination rates, worsened by conflict, supply blockades, and vaccine shortages, are major causes. In some areas, like Sortony, routine vaccinations stopped for months. MSF has supported campaigns, such as vaccinating 55,800 children in Forbrenga, but supply limits forced them to exclude children over five. Though mass vaccinations have now begun, delays have allowed the disease to spread further. MSF warns that unless wider and quicker vaccination programs reach all areas, including remote ones, future outbreaks are likely. Other diseases, like cholera, are also emerging, with 200 suspected cases recently reported. MSF urges Sudan’s government, UN agencies, and health groups to work together, improve vaccine access, and quickly respond to all health threats across Darfur. Prevention, not just reaction, is essential.
Jehovah Rapha, we pray for Your divine healing upon those suffering from the Measles outbreak and other diseases in Sudan. We pray for the Sudanese people, especially children, to have immediate access to healthcare and other essential resources (The Holy Bible, Jeremiah 33:6).
Almighty GOD, we pray for the divine provision of resources and sustained aid for all the people, especially children, in need in Sudan. We pray that no one suffers for lack of healthcare, food, refuge, and other basic needs, in the Mighty Name of Jesus Christ (The Holy Bible, John 14:14).
