MALI: In a move widely perceived as an effort to maintain its grip on power against the clear wishes of the populace, the ruling military junta in Mali, headed by General Assimi Goita, has been granted an additional five-year presidential mandate. This approval came from the country’s transitional parliament following the passage of a bill. Malick Diaw, the president of the National Transitional Council (NTC), announced that this mandate could be “renewed as many times as necessary” without the need for elections. He described this as a significant step in Mali’s reconstruction, asserting that “the adoption of this text aligns with the will of the people.”
- Lord, we pray for God’s intervention in the leadership of Mali, asking for a restoration of true justice and a government that genuinely serves the people. May the leaders be granted wisdom and integrity in their decisions (The Holy Bible, Proverbs 21:1).
- Lord, we pray for peace and unity among the people of Mali during this challenging time. Pray for divine guidance to heal divisions and foster a spirit of reconciliation so that the nation may move towards a brighter future together (The Holy Bible, Philippians 2:2).
