MALI: A former prime minister of Mali, now ruled by the military, has been accused of damaging the state’s credibility due to his social media comments. Moussa Mara expressed his “unwavering support for prisoners of conscience” on X. He has recently been a strong critic of the military government. The junta took power after coups in 2020 and 2021 and shut down all political parties in May after rare protests against the government. In his post, the ex-prime minister mentioned that he regularly visits those who are detained to ensure that “the flame of hope never fades in them.” He added, “As long as night lasts, the sun will surely rise! We will do everything we can to make that happen as soon as possible!”

  • Lord, we pray for the prisoners of conscience in Mali, that they may find strength and hope during their time of detention. May their spirits remain unbroken, and may they receive the support they need from advocates like Moussa Mara (The Holy Bible, Hebrews 13:3).
  • Lord, we pray for Mali and its leadership to seek reconciliation and peace. May the country move towards a future where political dialogue and respect for human rights prevail, fostering an environment of hope and healing for all its citizens (The Holy Bible, Matthew 18:15).
