Maldives: President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu announced that he has directed the appropriate authorities to work on a cash incentive for every resident if the entire population of an island quits smoking. In this context, free schoolbookswere provided to children of those who have stopped smoking. Additionally, the government plans to enforce a smoking ban for the generation born after 2007, which will begin in November. However, the government has yet to effectively implement many laws and regulations concerning tobacco use. As a result, the sale of cigarettes individually and smoking in public areas remain prevalent.
- Lord, we pray for the successful implementation of laws and regulations aimed at reducing smoking in the community. May the authorities be granted wisdom and strength to enforce these policies effectively for the health and well-being of all citizens (The Holy Bible, Proverbs 29:4).
- Lord, we pray for the hearts and minds of the residents, especially the younger generation, to embrace a healthier lifestyle and turn away from smoking. May they find the support they need to quit and lead their communities toward a smoke-free future (The Holy Bible, Philippians 4:13).
