Country Information
Kyrgyzstan is a 10/40 Window country in Central Asia. It traces its lineage to the Mongol Empire. The nation broke away from the Soviet Union in 1991. Islam is the dominant religion. Christianity arrived largely through Russian Orthodox missionaries during the 19th and early 20th centuries, and later through Protestant missionaries who sought to establish small communities and schools.
Kyrgyzstan’s Christian Believers face immense challenges, including social pressure, limited access to Christian education, and persecution for converting from Islam. The Church is under threat due to the Religion Law of 2011, which restricts religious activity, increased government surveillance and raids on gatherings, forced marriages to Muslims, abduction of brides, and the limited availability of Christian literature. Kyrgyzstan made its way into the Top 50 Persecuted Countries in 2025. It ranks at 47th out of the 50.
