KUWAIT: Nasreen Rubaian, the head of the UNHCR office in Kuwait, stated that Kuwait—through its government, civil society, and media—”has always supported humanitarian efforts,” even as global crises grow and funding decreases. During an annual meeting with journalists, Rubaian described 2024 as one of the toughest years for the UN system. She referred to it as a “deadly cocktail” of rising humanitarian needs, ongoing conflicts, new refugee situations, and a sharp drop in international funding. According to her, these challenges have put a heavy strain on UN agencies around the globe. Rubaian wrapped up by expressing gratitude to the government and people of Kuwait for their constant support. She called Kuwait “a key player in global humanitarian action” and highlighted that the UNHCR is eager for “a new year of teamwork and cooperation to help millions in need worldwide.”

  • Pray that God will provide the resources, strength, and resilience needed by UNHCR and all humanitarian workers as they face rising global crises and funding shortages. Ask that their efforts be sustained and multiplied to reach those suffering around the world (The Holy Bible, Philippians 4:19).
  • Thank God for Kuwait’s generosity and commitment to humanitarian causes. Pray that the nation’s leaders, civil society, and people will continue to be guided by compassion, wisdom, and peace as they support refugees and vulnerable communities globally (The Holy Bible, Hebrews 4:16).
