West Bank: The outskirts of the village, once a place where families grazed sheep, cultivated crops, or enjoyed evening strolls, have turned perilous. The violence in Kafr Malik triggered a series of confrontations between settlers and Israeli security forces in the region. Soldiers shot and injured an Israeli youth, leading hard-right Israelis to clash with troops outside a military base and set fire to a nearby security facility. Tensions had been escalating in Kafr Malik for several days prior to the incident, as residents mourned the loss of a 14-year-old boy, Ammar Hamayel, who was shot and killed by Israeli soldiers in the olive groves on the village’s outskirts just two days earlier.
At the heart of the violence is a long-standing struggle over land, as Jewish settlers, who view the West Bank as part of their biblical heritage, occupy territory that much of the international community sees as essential for a future Palestinian state. Most countries regard all Israeli settlements in the occupied territory as a breach of international law.
- Lord, we pray for peace in the region, that harmony may replace violence and that individuals on all sides may find understanding and compassion for one another (The Holy Bible, Matthew 5:9).
- Lord, we pray for the families affected by the violence, particularly those mourning the loss of loved ones, that they may find comfort and healing in their time of grief (The Holy Bible, Psalm 147:3).
