MYANMAR: On the surface, Yangon appears to be a typical, lively city. In the downtown areas, people rush by street vendors while diners sit under umbrellas. Buses and cars fill the roads as they move along. At sunset, young folks stop to take pictures in front of the famous Sule pagoda, which shines against a pink-blue sky. However, nearly five years after the military took control in a coup that removed and jailed then-leader Aung San Suu Kyi, life for locals feels far from stable. Myanmar’s military leaders are preparing for the first elections since before the coup—an event they claim will bring back democracy and stability. The UN and many Western governments have labeled this process, set to take place in three phases ending on January 25, as a fraud.

  • Pray that God will bring genuine peace and justice to Myanmar, exposing falsehood and guiding the nation toward leadership that truly serves the people, not oppression or fear. Ask that any plans rooted in deception will fail and that righteousness will prevail (The Holy Bible, Psalm 37:28).
  • Pray for protection over civilians, especially young people, families, and those who feel voiceless. Ask God to strengthen their hearts, preserve their lives, and restore hope amid uncertainty and political instability (The Holy Bible, Psalm 9:9).
