INDONESIA: The Special Immigration Office at the Immigration Checkpoint (TPI) of Soekarno-Hatta International Airport has sent immigration officers to villages to help prevent human trafficking crimes. According to Perdhana, this program allows immigration officers to educate the public about the dangers of human trafficking and illegal migrant smuggling.
He mentioned that having immigration officers in villages is a new strategy. These officers serve as the first line of defense by reaching out to local communities and teaching them about the risks and signs of trafficking and smuggling. Furthermore, during the passport application process, especially in the interview stage, a second level of screening takes place. Immigration officers evaluate why applicants want to travel, which helps identify potential victims early on.
- Lord, we pray that immigration officers are granted wisdom and discernment as they educate communities about human trafficking and smuggling (The Holy Bible, 1 Timothy 1:9).
- Lord, we pray for the safety and protection of the vulnerable individuals at risk of becoming victims of human trafficking. May they receive support and help in their communities (The Holy Bible, Luke 4:8).
