Human trafficking is a persistent problem in Brunei, especially among migrant workers from Indonesia, the Philippines, Bangladesh, and China. They are most likely to suffer from exploitative means like debt bondage, withholding of passports and wages, and physical violence. Sex trafficking is also a threat to some women and children, both while in Brunei and as they move through the country. The government has made efforts to address these challenges, including the ratification of international conventions and the passage of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Order in 2019. These efforts notwithstanding, challenges remain, such as a lack of victim identification and assistance programs, especially for male victims. Although Brunei has joined regional efforts and training schemes, experts recommend a more proactive approach to enforcement and victim-centered solutions if human trafficking is to be effectively addressed in the country.

Pray for the LORD’s love, comfort, healing, and strength to cover and heal all human trafficking victims in Brunei, especially women and children who have suffered violence and ill-treatment. Pray for the LORD to bless them with hope and a bright future (The Holy Bible, Jeremiah 29:11).

Pray for the effective enforcement of the laws to eradicate human trafficking and dismantle trafficking networks in Brunei and its neighboring countries. Pray for the evildoers behind the trafficking wings to be brought to justice. Pray for divine protection and wise counsel to shield all the vulnerable from exploitation (The Holy Bible, 2 Samuel 22:31).
