On August 11, 2025, Lieutenant General Maly Socheata, spokesperson for Cambodia’s Ministry of National Defense, announced that 18 Cambodian soldiers have been detained by Thai forces for 13 days, following their arrest on July 29, 2025—just hours after a ceasefire took effect. Cambodia is calling for their immediate release in line with international humanitarian law, a demand echoed by partner nations and international organizations. The Ministry reaffirmed its firm commitment to upholding the ceasefire agreement and pursuing peaceful dispute resolution. It emphasized continued cooperation with Thailand, Malaysia, other ASEAN member states, and global partners to ensure the ceasefire is fully implemented and all conflicts are resolved in accordance with international law, the UN Charter, and the ASEAN Charter.
Abba Father, we lift up the 18 Cambodian soldiers in captivity. Protect them, grant them strength, and open doors for their swift release. May peace prevail between Cambodia and Thailand, and may leaders act with fairness and compassion (The Holy Bible, Psalm 146:7).
Lord, guide both nations to honor their agreements and uphold the dignity of every life. Let understanding replace hostility, and let Your peace rule in the hearts of all involved (The Holy Bible, John 14:27).
