Christian groups are urging Eritrea to release seven church leaders who have been jailed without trial for over 20 years. The #Voices4Justice campaign states that these men have been denied their legal rights and family visits. Some belong to evangelical churches, while others are part of a reform group in the Eritrean Orthodox Church that promotes using local languages in worship. All were respected figures who helped their communities through medical and social work. Their continued detention is part of a wider pattern of religious persecution in Eritrea, where hundreds of people face harsh treatment for their faith. Many Christians are jailed in poor conditions, suffering abuse, torture, and denial of medical care. Some even die in custody. Rights advocates say this violates both Eritrea’s laws and international agreements. They are calling for the unconditional release of these prisoners and others held without fair trial simply because of their religious beliefs.
Pray for the immediate and unconditional release of the imprisoned Christian leaders, who have been jailed without trial for over 20 years, and other imprisoned believers in Eritrea. Pray for their immediate access to legal rights and family visits (The Holy Bible, Mark 10:27).
Pray for the end of the religious oppression in Eritrea. Pray for the Eritrean government to uphold international human rights laws and allow its citizens to exercise their full rights and freedoms in their homeland (The Holy Bible, Proverbs 31:8-9).
