Tensions along the Cambodia-Thailand border have led to the arrest of 119 Cambodians for illegal re-entry between May 30 and July 10, 2025.
Many had returned home fearing conflict but went back due to joblessness and high living costs. Arrests occurred in Sa Kaeo and Aranyaprathet, with migrants crossing through forests and fields. Some held passports but lacked valid Thai entry stamps. Most had previously worked at Rong Kluea Market and sought to resume their livelihoods. Officials warned that violators may face up to 45 days in prison before deportation. Experts highlight that Thailand offers better job accessibility and living conditions, while Cambodia struggles to provide promised employment and support.
Abba Father, we pray for protection and provision for Cambodian workers seeking safety and work to support their families. May they find open doors, dignity, and justice in their search (The Bible, Psalm 146:9).
Lord, we ask for wisdom and compassion among leaders of Cambodia and Thailand. May peace prevail at the borders and may policies uphold justice and mercy for all people (The Bible, Matthew 5:9).
