Since July 16’2025, the Taliban have arrested many women and girls in Kabul for not following strict dress rules. A new Taliban order from August 2024 says women must fully cover their bodies and faces in public. These arrests are part of the Taliban’s efforts to control women and remove them from public life. Women are already banned from work, education, and travel. But many still try to go out and wear colorful hijabs as small acts of resistance. The Taliban sees even these small choices as a threat. Their actions are being called “gender apartheid” by rights groups and the UN. This means the Taliban are trying to erase women’s freedom and identity. Despite this, Afghan women say they will not stay silent or hidden. They want the world to support their fight for rights and recognize gender apartheid as a serious international crime.
Pray for the international authorities to urge the Taliban authorities to ease the restrictions on women and girls in Afghanistan. Pray for justice to prevail for the oppressed in the country (The Holy Bible, Psalm 72:4).
Pray against gender-based discrimination in Afghanistan. Pray for the Afghan women and girls to have access to all their rights and freedoms in their homeland (The Holy Bible, Ruth 2:12).
